How to Shed Weight Fast

Shedding weight is often easier said than done. You can have a weight-loss plan that best suits you and still not see the results you want right away. When you’re unable to shed weight fast and see some actual weight loss when you look at yourself in the mirror or stand on a scale, it can be disheartening and make you give up early in the game.

It is possible to shed weight fast, if this is what you need to keep you going in the right direction or if you need to look your best for a coming reunion or other event. It is important to remember, however, that while you’re starting with a short-term goal, you still need to have a long-term mindset with regards to your weight and overall health. This is the only way that you can maintain a healthy weight, and not just temporarily get rid of the excess.

Mind Over Body

Shedding weight fast should not involve a quick-fix, short-range mindset. While you can focus on losing a certain amount of weight within a short period of time, this should only serve as the starting point that will propel you towards lifelong fitness.

You can set your mind on a two-week weight-loss goal in the beginning. Once you’ve achieved it, don’t stop there, or you’ll easily gain back those pounds you’ve shed, and then some. Keep setting weekly targets. This strategy will actually make it easier for you to commit to a lifetime of fitness because you’re dividing the task of making healthier choices into smaller and more manageable goals – much like checking off items on a to-do list.

It’s alright to think about where you want to be weight-wise in one week as long as you also have your sight and mind set on maintaining your healthy goals for the rest of your life. From a “get-in-shape mindset,” shift to the “stay-in-shape frame of mind.”

Eat-Less-Junk Diet

It may seem to many that starvation is the surest way to shed weight fast. But it is obviously not the safe way to go. You will need to forego certain kinds of food – the unhealthy ones, mostly; and you will have to limit your food intake. But this does not mean that you should let yourself go hungry. Unfortunately, this is how most fad diets work, and exactly why they’re not a healthy and effective weight-loss strategy.

We only need a basic understanding of how our body functions with regards to food intake and energy output to help us make healthy food choices.

When you satisfy your body’s needs for nutrients with a balanced diet, you also effectively keep your food intake in check; you are less likely to overeat; and you don’t gain excess weight and become unhealthy.

Adversely, depriving your body of the important nutrients it naturally craves by eating foods that lack nutrient value will cause you to eat more in your body’s attempts to satisfy these nutritional needs. But because you keep eating the same junk, these needs don’t completely get satisfied and you end up gaining weight. Additionally, your body is not able to properly perform its functions, which includes the ability to efficiently burn fat for energy.

So if you eat less sugars and carbs, and more proteins, healthy fats, and vegetables, your hunger levels will actually go down; your calorie consumption will go down; and you will shed weight fast when your body starts burning your fat stores for energy. Compared to the short-term fullness you get from carbs, filling up on the essentials actually translates to feeling fuller longer because you don’t just literally fill up your stomach; you also satisfy your body’s nutrient needs.

Keep On Burning

Another key to effectively shed weight fast is to keep your metabolism up. This means you will need to increase your physical activity so you’ll burn more calories than you consume. If you can start going to the gym, at least to kickstart your weight-loss, then great. But you can also simply take at least 15 minutes, at least three times a week, to do a bit of cardio and weight-lifting exercises.

Walk more or start running. Ride the bicycle. Do laps in the pool. Go hiking on weekends. If you do any of these regularly, you’ll start burning more calories. But it’s important to combine your cardio workout with strength-training through simple weight-lifting exercises. All you’ll need is a pair of dumbbells, and you can easily do your routines in the comfort of your own home. There are plenty of videos online to help you get started.

Why is lifting weights important to shed weight fast? It helps your body build lean muscles, and this actually requires burning a lot of calories. So while you’re becoming leaner and stronger, you’re also burning more of your excess pounds.
